We received 149 entries for the Elephant Park Writing Competition! Thank you to everyone who entered - it was wonderful reading all your fabulous poems and stories inspired by playground memories. We are very grateful to the fabulous Penny Scown at Scholastic NZ for judging.
The results are in! We are delighted to announce the winners, runners-up and highly commended entries in both the Junior and Senior divisions.

Congratulations to our top placegetters Anisha, Amaia and Tiana (Juniors) and Agatha, Emma and Nathaniel (Seniors).
Juniors:
Anisha (6) WINNER - beautifully lyrical poem, wonderful use of descriptive and imaginative language
Amaia (6) - RUNNER-UP - very well written for a 6-year-old - competent retelling, detailing emotions and descriptions
Tiana (8) - HIGHLY COMMENDED - good use of structure and language, draws the reader in
Seniors:
Agatha (9) - WINNER - Wow! Remarkable writing for age 9. Beautiful use of language and simile
Emma (10) - RUNNER-UP - Great command of rhyme and rhythm, interesting language, nice story arc
Nathaniel (10) - HIGHLY COMMENDED - Great use of simile and metaphor

Juniors:
Gaia (7) - nicely written with descriptive language
Jack (8) - lyrical poem and admirable how he made the shape of a tree
Joy (8) - good use of speech and punctuation
Theo (6) - very good for 6 years of age with a great start
Seniors:
Amy (10) - nice use of simile
Harrison (9) - good effort, we loved "I felt like a small crumb"
Jackson (10) - well-paced writing, good description, loved "Zeus would never forgive me"!
Libby (9) - evocative description of a flying fox, nice use of language
RP (11) - good effort, nice use of simile
Shepherd (10) - good understanding of the haiku form
Thomas (10) - enjoyed this haiku, poignant twist at the end
Ziphya (10) - lovely humour
