Invention Challenge and Colouring Competition Results

Thank you to everyone who entered The Wonderful Stranges colouring competitions! We received some amazing entries which made the judging process very difficult!

Colouring Competition Results

The winners of the colouring competition are:
Ivory W (7yrs) from Elmwood Normal School
Mila-Rose R (10yrs) from Te Parito Kōwhai Russley School.

We were impressed with their careful attention to detail and great colour choices. Ivory and Mila-Rose will each receive a $25 book voucher courtesy of University Bookshop Canterbury and a book prize pack.

Highly Commended:

Phoebe O (6yrs)

Senuthi (5yrs).

Invention Challenge Results

The standard of entries in our invention challenge was incredibly high. We enjoyed seeing your fantastical, whimsical inventions. It was so hard for us to choose the winners that we enlisted the help of our resident engineering student from Canterbury University. Entries which stood out included captions, names for their inventions and/or an explanation. Some inventors were focused on sustainability, the environment or community. Many let their imaginations fly with weird and wacky contraptions to help with tasks from laundry to taking tests! We loved the collaborative approach to Lawrence and Basti’s entries - their machines are connected by a pipe! We were amazed that several entrants actually built their designs - that was really going ‘next level’!

The two winners and recipients of a $25 UBS voucher and book prize pack are:

Lawrence B (7yrs) from Te Parito Kōwhai Russley School

and the team from Te Kura o Mata: Kohanui (7yrs), Logan (8yrs), Kairangi (10yrs), Jax (11yrs) and Reilly (11yrs). It was impossible to pick a favourite from the Te Kura o Mata entries so they win a joint prize for the school library.

Special mention to the following Highly Commended entries:

Basti (8yrs) Te Parito Kōwhai Russley School

Tilly (7yrs) Kūmara School

Elspeth (9yrs) St Marks

Tēvunga (8yrs) Bishopdale School

All of the entries we received were innovative and creative. How fabulous to see such incredible imagination and problem solving skills. Thanks again to all the young creatives and inventors for sharing your brilliant ideas and thank you to University Bookshop Canterbury for their support.
