Published by Scholastic NZ, The Dragon at the Zoo is set in Auckland Zoo and is inspired by the iconic dragon sculpted by Cedric Storey in the 1950s. Constructed from wire mesh and concrete, the dragon was built to cover a felled kauri tree. For decades, children have befriended the dragon at the zoo, scrambled over him and posed for photos in his wide open mouth. Over the years, the dragon has changed colours several times and had an extreme makeover for his 50th birthday in 2009. The Dragon at the Zoo will be in all good bookstores in early April!
